Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep garnet.

Bouquet: With primary fruit notes like blueberry and red cherry presented, the nose is powerful intense and robust. It unveils layers of cedar wood, dry plum, and a delicate touch of cacao and star anise.

Palate: On the palate, the structure is soft and gentle. Medium-intensity tannins coat the mouth, and balanced medium acidity lends a refreshing quality to the wine's texture. In terms of flavours, the wine's journey continues in the realm of secondary and tertiary: dark chocolate, plum, sultana, allspice and black pepper. Coconut and vanilla lie beneath, adding a layer of complexity.

Winemaking

Sourced from the Beresford Estate Vineyard in the cool sub-region of Blewitt Springs, parcels were harvested separately based on flavour and tannin ripeness. Due to the diligence of the dedicated vineyard team, we are able to ferment these lovely little parcels separately in our small two and four-tonne open fermenters. Further complexity is added with the combination of new, one and two-year-old French and American oak hogsheads. No animal products are used for fining or filtration. Vegan Friendly.

Reviews

As with most of the team’s reds, this is from the highly regarded sub-region of Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale. Maturation, again as is the norm with the team, was in a mix of new, one and two-year-old French and American oak hogsheads. Deep magenta, this will benefit from a little extra time to allow the oak to complete integration. The wine is rich, generous and approachable with notes of mocha, mulberries, cloves, coffee beans, graphite, blackberries, kirsch and chocolate. Good intensity throughout, this is a wine brimming with life and energy. Fine balance, sleek tannins and such impressive length, really love this and it should drink beautifully for up to fifteen years, at least. A wine which has the wow factor in spades.
